Finite element analysis of problems important in structural engineering. Overview of direct stiffness method. Discretization of continuum to finite elements for approximate solution of complex engineering problems. Development of governing equations, stiffness and load matrices for deformation and stress analysis. Work and energy theorems. Hands-on experience with industry-standard software and practical applications in structural engineering. Recommendations: CEE 22 or ME 41 or consent of instructor
