Ethics and Community Engagement Research (NUTR-0274)
Spring 2026 · NUTR 0274 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate
Community-engaged research paradigms have emerged in large part as a response to historical instances of exploitative research relationships with marginalized and underserved communities and the recognition that research has the capacity to inflict unintended harm. In this course, students will explore the ethical considerations involved in engaging with communities for research purposes. Students will explore the potential benefits and risks of community engagement, along with strategies to build trust and foster collaboration. Through case studies and practical exercises, students will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to conduct ethical and effective community-engaged research. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to address complex ethical dilemmas in their research projects.
