Disrupted Realism (PAIM-0055)

Spring 2026 · PAIM 0055 · Tufts University · 4 credits · Undergraduate

Interpret and distort ‘realism’ using psychology, insight, and revelation. Include emotion, impulses, and memory as you respond to the subjectivity and sensations of your experience. Students research contemporary artists working in this vein. They learn new painting techniques, and use multiple perceptions and methods (drawing, photography, video, and digital image manipulation) to develop images. Demonstrations, one-on-one instruction, and generous easel time. Develop and express personal vision by reinterpreting realism. Previous painting experience helpful. Open to all levels.
