Replicas and Reproductions (PRT-0113)
Spring 2026 · PRT 0113 · Tufts University · 4 credits · Undergraduate
Use a variety of digital and analog reproduction techniques - 2D and 3D scanning and printing, laser cutting, casting, and basic printmaking techniques - to imitate, reproduce, and challenge what is considered an authentic object, impression, or experience and explore sameness as a means to distinguish difference. Examine visual, digital, and audio examples of “the copy” as replicas, counterfeits, knockoffs and bootlegs. Survey of artists who employ strategies of impersonation, parody, homage, and reconstruction. Demos, lectures, and exercises support the development of self-directed final studio projects. Open to all levels.
