Research Design and Interpretation (SOC-0100)

Introduction to common empirical research methods to understand and explain social phenomena. Crafting of sociological questions and designing research to answer them. Methods include surveys, experiments, ethnographic methods, in-depth interviewing, material-based research, and focus groups; addresses the strengths, limitations, and complexities of each approach. Application of methodology through interpretation and critical assessment of existing research to become skilled consumers of sociological research.
