Tools and methods for analyzing and writing about sound in the context of music, sound studies, and other fields. Topics include the historical origins of sound as a category of thought; cross-cultural approaches to notation and visualizing sound; the science of acoustics and timbre; technologies of reproduction, production and artificial intelligence; sound design on stage and screen; ethnographic and historical soundscapes; the politics of noise; acoustic ecology; sound and the body; the voice. No prerequisites.
