Urban Planning And Design (UEP-0205)

The course gives 1) an overview of the history and practice of the planning and design professions, and 2) a hands-on design experience in group projects around the redevelopment of urban sites. The lecture component presents historical movements and current practices, from tenement reform and park planning to new urbanism and growth management, as well as the tools of urban design. The group projects focus on programming and designing the redevelopment of sites in Somerville, applying theories and practices learned.
