Close Looking and Art Interpretation at the MFA (VMS-0143)

Introduction and critical examination of traditional and contemporary art historical theories and methods of approaching art objects. Assessment of materiality of original works of art in a museum setting. Focus on development of skills for reading and interpreting artworks, assessment of materiality of original works of art in a museum setting, and discussion of display conditions to increase awareness about the importance of context for art interpretation. Classes held primarily inside the Museum of Fine Arts to examine works present in their collection.
