Overview of web technology, principles of cartographic design, and an introduction to common web mapping concepts and methods including the client-server model. Emphasis on using and extending existing wWeb mapping platforms to facilitate rapid development of professional quality wWeb maps and applications. Development of interactive web maps and applications using industry-standard web mapping software platforms including ArcGIS Online, Mapbox Studio, and Carto. Thematic maps using the JavaScript mapping library Leaflet. Standards including the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web mapping standards, and the GeoJSON format. Basic use of web markup language (HTML) and stylesheets (CSS and related formats). Prerequisites: GIS 201 or department permission.
