Culture and Disability (ANTH-0125)

Examines disability from an anthropological perspective. Focuses on how embodied differences are defined, experienced, and governed across cultures and historical periods. Topics include social constructions of normalcy; intersections of disability with race, gender, class, and nationality; and the influence of medical, technological, and political systems on the experience of disability. Readings draw from anthropology and disability studies in the US and international contexts.
