Biomechanics: Solids and Fluids (BME-0011)

Fall 2026 · BME 0011 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate

Solid and fluid mechanics as related to biological systems. Stress, strain, motion and constitutive relations; force, mass, and momentum balances; equilibrium, universal solutions and inflation; extension and torsion, beam bending and column buckling; nonlinear solid biomechanics methods; exact solutions for biologically relevant fluid flow; coupled solid-fluid problems. With demonstrations of methods for measuring mechanical properties of biological systems. Prerequisite or concurrent enrollment in PHY 11 and MATH 34.
