Ethical problems and challenges prompted by current and future technological advances in AI, robotics, and human-robot interaction. Philosophical foundations of the main ethical theories and links between these and algorithmic approaches in artificial agents. Functional tradeoffs and implications for autonomous robots and AI systems, explicating and contrasting the assumptions underlying each algorithmic approach. Moral psychology and human-robot/human-technology interaction, including the societal implications of AI and robot technology. Social, economic, legal, and military ramifications. No graduate enrollment. Graduate students may take CS 239 instead.
