Development Aid in Policy and Practice (DHP-P222)
Fall 2026 · DHP P222 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate
This course provides an overview of key concepts, tools, challenges and changes in the field of development aid. This time of uncertainty is also an opportunity for reflection and re-imagining; to do this well, we must understand and learn from past approaches. What are the goals and tools of aid, and how have these changed over time? What are the new and ongoing debates, and what are the trade-offs between different courses of action? Who are the various stakeholders, and what are their perspectives and motivations? What have we learned from past failures and successes? What promising innovations and unconventional approaches are emerging? And finally, where do we go from here? We will discuss examples from many different fields and geographic regions and bring in a variety of scholars and practitioners to share their perspectives.
