Thinking Machines and Automata (DIG-0140)

Explore the creative use of artificial intelligence and autonomous machines. Learn basic and necessary skills in electronics, physical computing, digital fabrication, and creative coding to bring their ideas to fruition. Develop proficiency in beginner-friendly tools that encourage creative exploration, such as the Arduino microcontroller, Teachable Machine simplified machine learning, and prompt-based AI applications like Dall-E 2 and ChatGPT. Through readings and discussion, we examine the philosophical and ethical discourses regarding the nature of intelligent machines and their use in society. No experience in digital media required. Non-SMFA students and MAT Art Education students will receive a letter grade.
