Human Physiology (DPT-0501)

This course provides the foundational knowledge related to physiology and pathophysiology. Key principles of cellular physiology and major organ systems - neuromuscular, cardiovascular, pulmonary, integumentary, gastrointestinal, renal, and endocrine - are reviewed. Physiologic principles necessary for functional movement and the associated effects of physical activity on health and wellness across the lifespan will be presented. This course introduces the pathogenesis of common conditions encountered by the physical therapist. This course also introduces pharmacologic principles, including an understanding of the pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamic properties of common drug classifications and the impact on the major organ systems.
