Women criminals in French literature and film as expressed in 20th- and 21st-century texts, films, and contemporary French-language true-crime television series and podcasts. Crimes attributed to women, the social and legal responses the crimes provoke, and the specificity of criminals’ motives. How female criminals are portrayed—as evil figures, tragic heroines, morally ambiguous subjects, or wrongly accused–including the cultural, historical, and ethical frameworks that shape these representations.
