Signs & Symbols (GRA-0050)

The origin of language and meaning in the employment of signs, especially as these are manifested in graphic symbols and representations. Theories of signs (composed of a signifier and a signified, as defined by semiotics) in historic and contemporary settings, in both analog and digital forms. Readings and hands-on projects explore visual meaning, legibility, and the complexities of seeing.
