Reading the World (ILCS-0060)

Introduction to seminal literary works from diverse cultures that have shaped the world in profound ways. Core readings primarily from Arabic, Chinese, German, Japanese, Jewish and Russian cultures; additional readings focus on other cultures around the world. How literary works impact and influence society and how fiction can facilitate understanding of and access to other peoples and perspectives across the globe. Format includes guest lecturers with emphasis on writing and public speaking skills. No prerequisites.
