Fall 2026 · PH 0207 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate

Public health is fundamentally about people, including the experiences, values, and perspectives that shape how health, illness, and community are understood. This required foundational course serves as the starting point for MPH students to explore public health practice and their role within it. Students engage with real-world challenges related to healthcare delivery, policy, environment and climate, and structural inequities, while developing skills in critical thinking, evidence-informed decision-making, and communication. Through applied activities and guided reflection, students examine tradeoffs, constraints, and the impact of public health decisions on individuals and communities. The course emphasizes belonging, helping students consider how they will contribute to public health in ways that are thoughtful, responsible, and grounded in advancing health equity.
