Still Life Photography (PHT-0108)

Still Life photography as a practice that draws from the histories of painting, sculpture, photography, and video, incorporating a variety of natural or manufactured materials and objects, including small tableaux, doll houses, and miniature documentations from the outside world to documentation of the dead. Provides a rich canvas on which to explore poetics and problematics of our time. Table-top setups constructed in studios, homes, or dorms with simple lighting and compositional strategies. Weekly lectures, assignments, readings, and/or discussions related to still life photography, its historical precedents, and contemporary manifestations. Basic camera and Photoshop skills expected. Instructor consent. Intermediate level course.
