Human Communication (PSY-0212)
Fall 2026 · PSY 0212 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate
Our elaborate system for communicating with each other is one of the primary reasons for the evolutionary success of our species. No other animal can communicate complex meanings as flexibly and efficiently as humans can. We are in fact so good at it that we are usually not even aware how advanced our communication system is, and how much cognitive scaffolding it requires. Even though human communication is severely underrepresented as a topic in Cognitive Psychology, it is in fact one of the crown jewels of human cognition. This course is aimed at providing a summary of how our communication system works from a cognitive-psychological perspective, and giving a comprehensive overview of what we do and don’t know about it.
