The history and practice of colonial schooling in comparative perspective across the United States, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, and parts of Africa, tracing the circulation of ideas, practices, and institutional forms in historical and contemporary contexts. Examines how colonial governments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries established assimilationist school systems to extend territorial, political, and cultural influence. Themes include colonial education policy, assimilation, techniques of social management and control, and Indigenous adaptations, responses, and resistance.
