Craft Theory Studio Seminar (SCP-0151)

Advanced studio-seminar examining historical and contemporary craft movements through critical theory, material culture studies, and interdisciplinary discourse. Craft’s evolving relationship to fine art, design, labor, gender, race, nationalism, and global production systems. Through sustained research, writing, discussion, and studio production, independent projects synthesize theoretical inquiry with material practice. Foundational and contemporary texts in craft theory, materiality, and critical studies to analyze how objects circulate within aesthetic, political, and social frameworks. Research-driven studio projects accompanied by written and verbal articulation of their conceptual frameworks. Prerequisites: Junior standing or above, and at least one prior course in SCP, MTL, FIB, or CER; or instructor consent.
