Biophotonics Laboratory (BME-0156)
Spring 2027 · BME 0156 · Tufts University · 4 credits · Undergraduate
Theoretical foundations and laboratory activities for biophotonic approaches used to characterize biological specimens. Optical imaging techniques: brightfield, phase contrast and fluorescence microscopy. Depth-resolved modalities: confocal microscopy, two-photon excited fluorescence and second harmonic generation. Diffuse optics, near-infrared spectroscopy, and photoacoustic imaging. Emphasis on experimental design, selection of imaging parameters, data acquisition and interpretation of results using state-of-the-art instrumentation. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of each biophotonic modality.
