International Law and the Middle East Conflict (ILO-L260)

Spring 2027 · ILO L260 · Tufts University · 3 credits · Undergraduate

The Middle East conflict (encompassing Israel-Palestine and related regional conflicts) is among the most contested subjects in contemporary international law and international relations. The conflict has raised competing legal claims relating to territory, colonization, self-determination, use of force, humanitarian law, security, occupation, apartheid, genocide, and human rights. This course will engage in legal analysis of these claims, focusing on identifying relevant legal rules, understanding interpretative arguments regarding the meaning of those rules, and evaluating the application of those legal rules to salient facts.
