History of Jazz (MUS-0026)

History of jazz from its origins to the present day, examining various styles including Dixieland, swing, bop, modal, free-jazz, Latin jazz, and fusion. Emphasis placed on social, cultural, and historical contexts of the African American experience from which jazz emerged, and its influence on global cultures. Exploration will include live performance examples and opportunities.
