Heat, Housing, and Health: Climate Resilience in a Changing World (PH-0234)

Spring 2027 · PH 0234 · Tufts University · 1.5 credits · Undergraduate

Extreme heat is a predictable - and preventable - public health risk, especially for residents who are unsheltered, living in substandard housing, older, medically fragile, or socially isolated. Students learn about systems that reduce repeated heat stress through proactive planning, targeted outreach, and reliable access to cooling and hydration supports. Students learn how heat risk concentrates by neighborhood and vulnerability. Students gain insight into how various cities have designed their heat-response workflows, as well as training for how to work with municipal and community partners as collaborative consultants on related issues. This is a fully asynchronous course (self-directed with opportunities for live, online interaction with the Course Instructor). It is intended as a standalone course, but also serves to prepare students for PH 0235 Heat, Housing, and Health: Immersive Experience.
